Emails Are Very Serious

email iconI will try to make this positive because I have been asked to be more upbeat in my posts, to make a difference in the world, to affirm the great energy in everyone…. ugh! Onto the topic at hand. How serious is email? Well apparently very. It seems that when one sends an email the receiver often takes on the position of a professor grading a term paper. I like to call this, in a positive way of course, anal-retentive or a someone with a superiority complex (that’s P.C. for arrogant). Look if I was trying to win a Pulitzer with every email I send I would spend hours poring over ever word, editing, and re-editing to craft the perfect prose. Yes I get it you care deeply about spelling and grammar. It’s because of this that we are forced to use time consuming spell checkers, when all I was trying to do was send a QUICK note.

Join me as I use email for as much trivial conversation as possible, this is me being positive (I know, it sounds contrived).

Dreams that Come True

walt disney worldSomehow Disney World gets away with the ridiculous tag line “Where Dreams Come True.” Well I have now been to Disney and I can confidently say my dreams did not come true. Well except for the dream I had the night before, were I dreamed of standing in long lines in the hot sun and buying food at double what it normally costs. So who’s dreams actually come true at Disney? The share holders and owners of Disney who dream of extortion with over-done over-the-top theme’s, bad acting, and terrible music (um… Phil Collins & Elton John, nuff said).

Symbolism Seems Silly

christmas treeThe other day I was thinking how symbolism is just silly. With the obvious exception being symbolism related to matters of faith, where things that are not tangible must be believed. I wonder how can something that is symbolic have an emotional connection or be so important to someone? Our culture has too many meaningless symbols. Take for instance the Christmas tree, what the current meaning is behind this symbol is not universally clear. And yet we all must have one in our homes at Christmas time because it’s part of “getting into the Christmas spirit,” which is some emotional whimsical feeling I guess. “Your just a grinch,” I hear you saying. Well, how about the NAACP having a symbolic burial for “the n word.” Tell me that isn’t silly. Somehow this symbolic act for a word will mean so much to people and establish the end of racism… does this symbolism really DO anything? I think not. In the wise words of Garth Algar, from Wayne’s World, “LIVE IN THE NOW!”

In ancient times symbols had more meaning, now a days it just seems our culture’s “important” symbols relate to some feeling as apposed to any deep meaning. We even have post-modern thought where meaning is given to something by any individual’s interpretation. Symbolism without meaning is just worthless.
